Sonic Envy
Film/TV Licensing & Record Label
Music Industry vetran Brian Heatherman heads up both Sonic Envy & Curve Music. For Rock and Alternative leanings Sonic Envy launched with the signing of local indie-Rockers The Corner.
“Launching Sonic Envy as a Music Licensing entity and expanding beyond its role as a record label during the Toronto International Film Festival, feels like a natural progression,” says Hetherman. “Joining the Film + Music Social to showcase some of the talented artists we represent to filmmakers and music supervisors is definitely a rare and great opportunity.”
Curve Music
Record Label
The Curve Music label has been going strong for almost 12 years and has worked with and developed the careers of Suzie McNeil, Holly McNarland, Peter Katz, Garth Hudson (The Band) and the Dunes.
In 2012 Curve Music made the full transition into a Country and Roots Music label with the launch of country singer Lindsay Broughton and Jack Connolly, as well as re-releases by Canadian Country music icon Joel Feeney.
Country music singer/songwriter Lindsay Broughton has been making waves in the Canadian music scene as the recipient of the 2013 Country Music Association of Ontario Rising Star Award. She has had eight songs featured in the hit CBC show Heartland and has had her songs covered by multiple artists…all before the release of her debut album.
Broughton released her self-titled EP in 2012, which rose to #1 as the top selling Canadian Country album in Canada in 2013. Now, her debut full length album, Take Me There, is due to be released this fall.
Whether you’re into music that is gritty and artistically sound, or are just seeking a soundtrack for dancing commando in slow motion,The Corner delivers. In contrast to the raw simplicity typical to local indie rock, this Toronto-based band of four curates carefully produced, multidimensional compositions reminiscent of early Radiohead with elements of Arcade Fire.
Soulful R&B singer songwriter Troiano released his debut EP Inner Battles earlier this year. Drawing from a variety of musical influences such as Stevie Wonder, Jason Mraz, and Elton John, the songs on the EP are inspired by young love and struggle, framed with infectious drum and synth bass grooves, vintage keys, funky guitar and topped with Troiano’s unique, passionate vocals.
The nephew of Canadian Hall of Famer Domenic Troiano (The Guess Who, The James Gang, Mandala), Troiano carries on the legacy of outstanding musicianship while infusing deeply emotional lyrics and pop sensibilities.
Praise for #FMS13
“Diane hosted a very important event for songwriters and musicians during TIFF,” said Sass Jordan. “In today’s climate, it is harder and harder for musicians to find viable outlets to monetize what they do. Film and television are very important partners in an increasingly competitive landscape, and represent the perfect marriage of sound and vision. The Filmmaker Music Series is like a dating service for that type of marriage." via Karen Bliss, canada.com
“Unlike a lot of other parties, there was a lot of opportunity to actually talk at this event. The setting was right, delicious drinks were served, but there was the perfect balance of live performance and chat to network and meet other attendees. All around good time was had.” – Kyle Merkley, Music Supervisor, Arpix Media.
“The Film + Music Social was a fantastic networking event leading up to launching the first year of the Reel Indie Film Festival. We were able to secure an appearance by John Densmore (The Doors) and present Window of Opportunity, a film he produced as our opening night feature as a direct result of connections made at Skylar Entertainment’s event.” - Darryl Hurs, Indie Week, Reel Indie Film Festival
